Erik Bedard - Seattle Mariners

Erik Bedard News

Erik Bedard had season ending surgery on August 6th, with a bone spur being removed from his left shoulder. Erik hopes to be ready to pitch by spring training next year.

Erik Bedard, born March 6th, 1979 in Navan (Ottawa), Ontario, Canada, began his baseball career in the Orleans Little League and the Ontario, Canada Baseball Association. He was a pitcher on the 1992 Orleans Junior Red Sox team which beat Glace Bay in the 1992 Canadian Championship. Bedard did not play high school baseball, which is the norm in Canada due to the short season.

As a left-handed starter, Bedard pitched four seasons with the Baltimore Orioles and two shortened seasons due to injuries, with the Seattle Mariners.
On February 8th, 2008, Bedard was traded to the Seattle Mariners in a 5-for-1 deal sending outfielder Adam Jones and pitchers George Sherrill, Tony Butler, Chris Tillman and Kameron Mickolio to the Orioles, in exchange for Bedard.
Bedard only played the first four months of the 2009 season before landing on the disabled list. He had surgery on his shoulder on his pitching arm, which ended his 2009 season and he finished with a 5-3 record.
